Juvederm –
What to Expect

You made your Juvederm appointment – what happens next?

Upon arrival to our facility you will be asked to fill out some standard treatment and consent forms and read a few disclaimers. You’ll be escorted back to our treatment room. We will then discuss possible treatment complications such as bruising. This is the time to ask any questions or voice any concerns you may have about the procedure. The doctor will review your medical history and be available to answer questions. It is also possible that your photograph will be taken before the injections so that you can see the difference after receiving the injections.

You have some options when it comes to the type of Juvederm treatment you need. If your skin is moderate with some wrinkles and lines, you may opt for Juvederm Ultra. If you have deeper wrinkles and folds, you may need Juvederm Ultra Plus. Your doctor will help you decide which treatment is best for your skin. You also have the option of Juvederm infused with lidocaine (numbing medication) - Juvederm Ultra XC or Ultra Plus XC. This revolutionary product makes the procedure nearly painless.

You will be offered the option of topical numbing. Probably 50% of our patients forgo this option and simply use ice during the procedure.

The actual procedure takes less than 20min to perform, depending on what areas you will be having treated. The doctor will begin injecting the Juvederm gel into predetermined areas of your face. Once the gel is injected, your doctor will massage the area to smooth the gel.

The procedure typically has no down time, but you may experience some mild swelling and bruising. Ice is very effective at helping with both of these issues. You can resume all normal activity right after your procedure.

Upon completion, we will review the post-procedure instructions with you to ensure the best outcome possible. You will then be walked to the checkout desk to schedule your 2 week follow-up appointment. This visit allows us time to assess your response to the Juvederm and to perform any additional treatments that may be necessary.

Juvederm is a great option if you are concerned about the risks that come with surgery. Surgery poses serious complications that can be avoided with Juvederm treatments. The injections will last 9-12 months. Your body will eventually absorb the gel. This has no side effects since the gel consists of substances naturally occurring in your body.
